Older People's Health Issues - Mental health; Personality Disorders
Despite advances in diagnosis, treatment and societal attitudes many people with mental illness and in particular personality disorders and schizophrenia have very poor quality of life and higher than average rates of suicide, unemployment, homelessness and poor physical health. Older people with these conditions will most likely have carried a life long burden of discrimination and varying quality of care. The addition of chronic illness, disability and bereavement and as is often the case estrangement from family and friends makes these older people highly vulnerable and in need of complex care.
