Depression is a mental health illness that affects many people during their lives. Around one in five people will be affected at some time. Depression is an illness that can cause people to lose their confidence and independence and not be able to do everyday things. Results from studies have found that between 25 to 50% of residents in aged care facilities may have depression. It is often not diagnosed or managed in the best way for the needs of residents. Also of great concern is that older men have the highest incidence of suicide in any age group.
